I found and photographed three cranes this morning, the Common Crane,Sandhill and a juvenile in an open field along Walters road, where they were reported yesterday. In a driving rain, at 9:25 a.m., the birds were actively feeding, tearing up the ground, presumably for earthworms. And so, the rained-on cranes feed mainly on the plain.(Sorry,I couldn't resist--but the birds were there as stated.) Also found were two flocks of Wild Turkeys, one with 22 birds, along Seeley Road. Also, and of some surprise, a Loggerhead Shrike on the wires along Seeley Road, about 150 yards from the junction with County Road 540. Marvin Hyett
Thanks again to Marvin and everyone else who is reporting on these birds.
