Subject: Selasphorus Hummer at Goshen CMBO
Greetings:
Today Selasphorus (Rufous/Allen's) hummingbird was sighted at the Goshen CMBO Research Center. It was originally sighted just before 1 PM, but identified as a Ruby-throat. At 3 PM it returned and was seen by a number of people about every 30 minutes or so, coming into the flowers on the north side of the building. It has a rather speckled throat and the largest feathers at the center base of the throat reflect orange-red. I left at 4:30 and don't know if it came in after that or not.
The bird seems to best be viewed from inside the building coming into the various red, blue and purple salvia flowers scattered through the garden or the pineapple sage close to the parking lot at nw corner of the building.
Also reported today was the Western Kingbird at Hidden Valley and Snowy Owl at Strathmere.
