NJBirders,
I've just learned that the Allen's Hummingbird hosted by the Wilsons in Cape May was _not_ seen yesterday for the first time. If it has indeed vanished, this is not necessarily bad news, I am told. Some other "western" hummers that were being seen in eastern states also disappeared and the implication seems to be that they are attempting to migrate on, if they leave on a sunny, breezy day. If they disappear in bad weather the news is probably not so good.
Other updates: Florence on 1/1 had Thayer's Gull (juv) as well as Glaucous, Iceland and of course Lesser Black-backed. Bob Dodelson reports a Snowy Owl at Liberty State Park, perched on a barge offshore, yesterday (1/3). Ken Rieker reports "A quick trip to Oberly road today yielded 2 Lapland Longspurs with about 40 Horned Larks and 10 Savannah Sparrows. (No Snow Buntings)."
