NJbirders,
For weekend planners, I want to pass along what I have or haven't heard since the tapes were updated. No update reached me about the Moorestown Brant, Barrow's Goldeneye, or any other Review List species. Some other birds may be of interest, however. At Alpha, Karl Lukens et al. reported 2 or 3 Lapland Longspurs with Horned Larks on 1/24, plus an imm. Bald Eagle. At Liberty State Park, Tom Halliwell and others saw a Snowy Owl and a Little Gull on 1/24. The owl was under a small pine tree, just to the north of the road that goes out to Ellis Island, in the area between the Interpretive Center and the old RR terminal. The gull was seen from the first parking lot on the right after entering the park. Mike Bisignano reports that the Sandhill Crane was still present in Hamilton on 1/24. He saw it fly north from the Veterans Park pond, and relocated it nearby, feeding in a stubble cornfield on Whitehorse-Hamilton Square Rd., visible from behind the Shop-Rite.
Good birding,
Laurie Larson
