Subject: Ross's Goose, Salem Co. NJ

Report from Frank Lenik, Sunday, 4 Feb.

"I saw a probable Dark Adult Ross' Goose in a flock of about 2000 Snow Geese on Pointers Auburn Road about 1/2 mile south of the intersection with Route 40 on the new sod farm. This is about two miles west of Cowtown if you aren't familiar with it. The bird was observed in good light for about twenty minutes, but was actively feeding and a little difficult to watch. It had the black stocking neck and white face patch, as well as the white stripe across the middle of the body. The bird was obviously smaller than the snows it was with and the beak was smaller as well. The mantle was charcoal gray, under tail was white. The white on the belly did not extend as far up the neck as shown in Sibley's book."

Notes, photos, etc. of this extremely rare form would be of great value to the NJBRC.
