>Ross's Geese, Salem County
Ward Dasey just phoned to report that on Sunday 3/4 he saw the blue goose near Featherbed Lane, Sharptown which was possibly the same bird reported a few weeks ago by Frank Lenik. Ward said that the plumage looked "textbook" as far as a blue-morph Ross's Goose (as shown in the Sibley guide) but he was not 100% certain about the bill; he felt it might show a reduced grin patch like that which a hybrid would show. However, conditions were not ideal and he wasn't able to get a perfect view. He does feel that people should be alerted to the bird so we can possibly get more data about it.
In addition, also in Salem County on Sunday 3/4 Ray Steelman saw two white-morph Ross's Geese in a flock at the intersection of Pennsgrove-Auburn Rd. and Pointers-Auburn Rd. Ray also reports a Great Horned Owl on nest at the nature trail at the end of Money Island Rd. There were two adult Bald Eagles and a Snipe in that area as well.
