NJBIRDS:

A male Cinnamon Teal was reported today by Kevin Post of Atlantic County in Birch Grove Park in Northfield. The bird was confirmed late today by John Danzenbaker. According to a person working at the park, he believes the bird arrived about two weeks ago, along with a couple Redheads. While the March date span is generally good for this species to be on the move (they are common migrants this month out West), it should be said that Birch Grove Park, which has a fair number of ponds, supports a large number of waterfowl, some wild, some semi-wild, and many domestic. So, the origins of this bird are not certain.

To reach the park, take exit 36 off the Garden State Parkway and take (Fire Road and) Tilton Road to the south perhaps a mile, turning right on Burton Avenue (near an auto supply store and a Boston Market) and taking that a few blocks until you see the park entrance on your right. (Or turn right on Fire Road and look for Mill Road to the left, and take that until you come to the main entrance to the park to the left.) Once in the park take the road to the parking area at the end and look in the pond on the right, particularly near the back end near a covered bridge. The two Redheads are also in this pond. If not there, check any of the other number of ponds. And bring bread for all those hungry Mallards.....

This park has restricted hours. It closes at 6PM. I do not yet know when it opens in the morning, but will find out tomorrow (Saturday) when I visit there. I'll post an update sometime tomorrow.

In other news, two "Eurasian" Green-winged Teal were seen at the Bivalve impoundments in Cumberland County, as many as four "Eurasian" Green-winged Teal were in the West Pool at Brigantine NWR, and a new Yellow-headed Blackbird was reported in the last day or two at a not-certain location somewhere near Pedricktown, about 10 miles from the previous Yellow-headed report.
