Subject: Cinnamon Teal update
NJBIRDS:
The Cinnamon Teal was still present in Birch Grove Park in Northfield as of late on Thursday the 5th. The bird has been occasioanlly missed by visiting birders, as it appears to be capable of disappearing for up to an hour or so at a time. When it is seen it is always on the first pond on the right, near the unused kiosk building. If it is not obvious, it is often at the very upper end of that pond (the end closest to where one drives in from), hiding on the bank under a tree. Its origins remain a mystery, although one group thought one aspect of its behavior was suspect: It failed to eat the "CINNAMON granola bar" tossed toward it!!
In other news from ouside NJ but possibly of great interest to local birders, a breeding-plumaged BLACK-TAILED GODWIT was seen yesterday (Thursday) afternoon along the north shore of Moriches Bay on eastern Long Island. Further information should be gotten elsewhere.
