Subject: Curlew Sand. update

Given the weekend is upon us, I thought an update on the Curlew Sandpiper at Stone Harbor Point, Cape May County, is in order. The bird was still present this morning (Friday). For the past several days it has spent a good amount of time (at various tides) at a large pool about a third of the way out the point, near an upright tire standing in the sand. Otherwise it is usually closer to the base of the point in a couple small tidal channels; more rarely is it out on the open flats (at low tide). It is about half in breeding plumage, half in basic. High tide tomorrow is around 9AM. Be careful of Saturday beach traffic back-ups on Route 47 and the GSP starting around mid-morning.
