Subject: Purple Gallinule continues
NJBIRDS,
The Purple Gallinule, first found last Sunday Aug. 12 by Kerul Kassel, Rob Fanning, and others, is still present today at Allendale Celery Farm. Kerul Kassel reports:
"The Purple Gallinule was seen again today at 7:40 am at the Celery Farm in Allendale from the Warden's Watch tower on the southern end of the path. The bird was again in the purple loosetrife, this time to the right of the main channel, half way between it and the Wood Duck box the the right of it, close to the water. A scope was needed to really see the bird because of the distance."
Repeat of directions for Allendale (from Bill Boyle's book): Take the Garden State parkway to Exit 163 (Rt. 17). Follow Rt. 17 north for about 7.2 miles to the Allendale exit. Go west on E. Allendale Ave. for exactly one mile to Franklin Turnpike, turn right, and go about 0.2 miles to the small parking lot, on thte right. DeLorme NJ Atlas 26-E-11
I have heard no recent reports on the Curlew Sandpiper at Stone Harbor.
