Subject: Le Conte's Sparrow, Palmyra-- directions
Tom Bailey has sent detailed directions to the area where Ward Dasey found the Le Conte's Sparrow on Sunday, 7 November:
From the parking lot:
Follow the trail south along the river passing through the locust grove. Just after the grove turn left **ignoring the sign that says park boundary**. Continue straight ahead along the trail that goes past willows & through the high weeds. Sand removal machinery will be on your right as you start down the trail. Go to the very end of the trail, around the drainage ditch, to the main dirt road. From here you can see the leaf dumping area. There is a grassy area on the west (river) side of the leaf dumping area. This is where the bird was seen (and also where a Nelson's Sharp-tail was several weeks ago). This is all private property. The land- owner is birder friendly. I do not know if it has been seen since Sunday.
