Subject: Myiarchus and swallow update
Today, Thursday, in Cape May, the Myiarchus flycatcher from yesterday was refound and it is an Ash-throated. It is frequenting the field edge on the east side of Bayshore Road directly opposite where one parks to enter the Beanery. This is two blocks north of where it was yesterday on 5th and State Sts. in W. Cape May.
At least a dozen Cave Swallows were present this morning at South Cape May Meadows, along with 1500+ Tree Swallows. The Caves are often seen by themselves and with small groups of Trees. Another Cave or two was seen in the Beanery area. The weather is forecast to become milder the next couple days, which will probably make them a bit harder to find. Probably early and late in the day at SCMM (especially) and the Beanery will be one's best bet.
Amazingly, I just heard that there were 25+ Cave Swallows found Tues/Weds at Point Pelee, Ontario, so this recent double storm system must have really brought an invasion of the species to the Northeast/Midwest.
