Hurricane Floyd birds: notes from Cape May
Yesterday afternoon, just before and during the passage of the eye of Hurricane Floyd at Cape May, observers at the Point recorded the following:
23 (approx) Sooty Terns (including one flock of 17 birds)
2 - 4 Bridled Terns
25-30 Jaegers (Parasitic, Pomarine, and unidentified sp.)
6-7 Red-necked Phalaropes
a few large Shearwaters (unidentified sp.)
a few Gannets
Sandwich Terns
Black Terns
Wilson's Storm-Petrels
I understand that there are no seabirds being seen today, but that the northwest wind promises well for hawk and land-bird migration this weekend. Thanks to Shawneen Finnegan and Kevin Karlson for the update.
