Eared Grebes, Atlantic City:
Seen again yesterday 1/3. From Linda Mack:
Today (Jan. 3) Scott Barnes, Pete Bacinski and myself saw the Eared Grebes (2 birds) at Lakes Bay near Pleasantville. Best access was off 322/40 on Brenta Rd. The birds were with a large flock of Horned Grebes, and were towards the eastern side of the bay.
Rufous Hummingbird, Blackwood:
Still present yesterday 1/3. Karen Taylor says:
"...Just a little update. Jan 1st and 2ond was spent watching the Rufous, he was showing off to everyone that came. I think the longest we had to wait was under 15 minutes. He has a new large or/red spot on the left side of his gorget, and alot of new coloring in his back neck to mid head.... If I missed anyone's email over the weeks, please try again. Still open for viewing the hummer." Contact kataylor@jersey.net or phone (856) 232-8527 to visit.
Sandhill Cranes, Cream Ridge:
Last reported 30 Dec. by Sara Smith:
"I saw the Sandhill Cranes on Thursday, Dec. 30 at 8 am through the courtesy of a family which had a spotting scope already set-up. The cranes were in the cornfield which is in the valley of the sod farm on Burlington Path Road. They were right in front of the red and green farm equipment. The farmer, who thought they were just great blue herons, was informed by another birder as to the reason why so many cars were stopping on the side of the road."
