Loggerhead Shrike, Cedarville - update
Stuart Malmid phoned to say he and Wendy saw the Shrike this morning, Friday, 7 Jan, at about 8:45 AM. He said they waited about 15 minutes for it to appear. It seemed somewhat shy, disappearing into a cedar bush when cars passed, but kept returning to the wire.
Repeat of directions: "From Cedarville (by way of 553) take 610 south (Jones Island Road). You will come to an intersection. Take the right hand fork to Bay Point Road. Look for green Shepard farm buildings on the left side. Just beyond these on the right is some migrant housing. The shrike was on the wires just beyond these."
Eared Grebes, Atlantic City - update
From Larry Steingarten:
"Hi! - Saw the Eared Grebes late morning today [Thurs., 6 Jan.]. A better place to look at them in the morning is to go in the road at the Bayfront Office Complex (a 6 or so story office building). The road goes past the parking lot then becomes a dirt road along the east side of Lakes Bay. There are several places to stop along the dirt road where one can easily see the bay and the several bird flocks in it. The birds were closer to that side of the bay than elsewhere and the sun was great..."
