Announcing NJBIRDS, a New Jersey Rare Bird e-mail list
Listowner: Laurie Larson, llarson@pucc.princeton.edu
Hosted by Princeton University

20 November, 1998

Welcome to the NJBIRDS list. I created this list to disseminate New Jersey rare bird information. This list replaced and consolidated several previous lists that were getting completely out of hand. The initial subscription list consisted of several groups of people:

- Some were receiving NJ statewide and/or Cape May birding hotline transcripts (without subscribing to the full BIRDEAST list), and so were on one of my previous address lists;

- Some asked to receive e-mail alerts of rarities in NJ either from me or from Paul Lehman;

- Some are members of the NJ Records Committee, NJAS staff, or other persons who can help re-distribute this information to birders.

From now on, the list will be open to any interested subscriber.

This list will contain ONLY the NJ statewide and CMBO transcripts and irregular between-tape notices of rare birds in NJ. The only people posting to the list will be Paul Lehman and myself at this time, although other posters may be authorized if needed. No discussions, queries, or trip reports will be posted. Reports will generally include "review list" species, not necessarily species which are seasonally or locally rare, but the listowners will be responsible for deciding. These limitations will help keep list maintenance and off-topic messages (and "spam") to a minimum.

Please use other lists for discussions and queries.

If you want to spread information about a NJ rarity you have details about, please send a message directly to me, with cc: to Paul. llarson % princeton.edu (Laurie Larson)
