Greetings:

Bill Barber was at Old's Sams Pond today (Friday Feb. 2nd) scouting for a field trip he is leading tomorrow. He observed a gull from 8:30-9:15 AM standing on the ice that may well have been an adult Black-tailed Gull. It was slightly larger than a Ring-billed, very dark upperparts (darker than a nearby Lesser Black-backed and much smaller), with yellow legs. The bill pattern was yellow with a black subterminal band, tipped with a bit of red. The bird never moved and the tail was not seen.

Their best views were from the north side of the pond. The tide was either low or mid, but not high, at the time. They will be looking for it tomorrow morning before heading north to Sandy Hook.
