Senegalese Academic Society
Who we are
The Senegalese Academic Society is a non-profit organization that seeks to create and empower local and global support systems among members of the Senegalese Diaspora. This multidisciplinary and international organization (of researchers, teachers, and doctoral students) will allow us to profit from various analytical studies of socio-cultural data provided by members of our organization. We want to create an academic framework that will allow us to exchange ideas and network with and support one another. While respecting our diversity, we will combine our resources in order to have a strong impact on academic life in both North America and Africa. We are willing to affirm our Senegalese identity and use our power to influence the conception and implementation of scientific and educational projects pertaining to our country, the continent and the diaspora. However, the validity and legitimacy of our citizenship are determined by the manner in which we hold the dear values that feed our imagination. We pray that our endeavor will help strengthen out common bond and empower our indispensable dream for harmonious cohabitation in our nation.

Our goals
We would like to have direct and indirect impact in the development of new “educational and research initiatives.”We would like to develop new forms of solidarity between our members from universities and colleges.
Achieving these objectives requires us to:
1 – Welcome and enhance research about the challenges, history, and experiences of the Senegalese people and other African populations abroad and at home.
2 – Sponsor the development, presentation, and dissemination of our research and contributions.
3 – Organize meetings (such as seminars, colloquia, and workshops) in which junior scholars and interested communities will participate.
4 – Support and monitor the implementation of projects that are approved by Re-source / Sununet Global.
5 – Showcase the strength and achievements of the Senegalese University-Community.
6 – Contribute in the improvement of academic institutions of our country (Senegal).
7 – Help scholars from around the world be closer to Senegal and to its diaspora.
8 – Strategically participate in the development of democracy in our country.
9 – Work with established Senegalese professionals and intellectuals in the diaspora in order to identify the needs and necessary actions for enhancing the economy and democracy of Senegal.
|
How to do
In order to reach these objectives, we will need to:
a – Identify the similarities and differences between our projects.
b – Discuss our relationships with other established organizations.
c – Submit our research findings (whenever possible) to the involved institutions in order to show the convergences and divergences between dominant scholarly views.
d – Define the convergences between our research agenda, publications, the major issues, policies, and development strategies in Africa.
These tasks can be achieved only within the framework of a reliable and transparent organization. African values will help us to strengthen our national solidarity without falling under the control of political, religious, or philosophical movements. We invite all those with goodwill to help us conceive the Senegalese Academic Society as a part of Re-Source / Sununet (which is an organization that brings together all the Senegalese of the diaspora). In light of this objective (among many others), we have developed tentative administrative systems (see Statutes). These administrative and organizational structures will assess the effectiveness or lack thereof of our research, publications, and educational policies according to Africa’s realities. We hope that our organization will benefit all our fellow citizens.
What you can do
You can use your experiences to contribute to the collective and individual lives and governance of our compatriots. You can use your power to influence the conception and implementation of scientific and educational projects pertaining to our country, the continent and the diaspora. We look forward to welcoming you to the structures of the Senegalese Academic Society and developing better organizational strategies with you.
