LAB 3
Use your ETS-7000 logic trainers for these activities....
Finish any unfinished activities from Lab 2 first.
1. Test Octal TRI-STATE
Buffers/Line Drivers/Line Receivers 74LS244 --
- Wire DATA SWITCHES to input of 74LS244
gates. Use PULSE SWITCHES to enable outputs. Each PULSE SWITCH is used
to enable a bank of 4 gates. Wire LED DISPLAY to output of 74LS244.
- Show your instructor.
2. Static test of 2532 EPROM --
- Pupose of this test is to retrieve commands/data from the EPROM at specific points in memory.
- Verify the program entered
into the EPROM in an earlier lab using switches and lights on your trainer
board. Wire the low 8 address lines to the DATA SWITCHES. Wire
the high 4 address lines to ground. Wire the 8 data lines to the
LED DISPLAY on the trainer board. Figure out what to do with pins 20 and 21 of the EPROM
by reading the datasheet. Verify the first 10 locations of the EPROM.
(Don't forget to power the EPROM -- Vcc is +5V and Vss is ground.) Leave
circuit together for next step.
3. Testing of TIL 311 displays.
- Pupose of this test is display hex commands retrieved from the EPROM
- Wire up both TIL 311 displays to the 2532. Wire the TIL inputs to the data lines of the 2532. Wire the
LATCH STROBE to a PULSE SWITCH. Figure out what to do with the blanking
input. Test that you can cause the TIL displays to display the program in
the EPROM.
- NOTE: The wiring diagram on the datasheet is a BOTTOM
VIEW -- CAREFUL.
- ALSO DO NOT WIRE UP THE LEFT OR RIGHT DECIMAL POINT (pins 4 and 10) -- If you want to learn about the decimal points ask your
instructor.
4. Test Octal D-Type Flip Flop 74LS374 --
- Wire DATA SWITCHES to
inputs of the 8 flip-flops. Wire the eight outputs to the LED DISPLAY on the trainer board. Use PULSE
SWITCHES to drive latch and output enable. Test the concept of latching
data.
5. Wire up and test (using oscilloscope) the Crystal Clock.
- Call Lab Instructor or TA over and tell him/her the frequency of the clock using the oscilloscope.
