Real Materials

· The Mixed dislocations is the most general type of unit dislocation and has an arbitrary angle between its line vector and Burgers vector. b is a constant of the dislocation.
· The dislocation line does not need to be straight, and this will change the nature of the local distortion along the dislocation.
· For the case shown, screw character is shown at A, whereas at B the dislocation is edge type.
· At intermediate locations the dislocation has both edge and screw components, their magnitudes depending on the angle between b and t.
