elongation of various brass alloys on their composition. · Cartridge brass has the maximum ductility
of the group but a UTS only 65% of that for Muntz metal. · At the Muntz metal composition, the ductility
has been reduced to 15% of that for cartridge brass, but with a significant
increase in the UTS. · The ductility
of Muntz metal can be increased by heating it into the single β-phase at about 850 C and hot
working the
material. Cooling to room temperature will restore the two phase structure
and associated properties.
