Kinetics and Microstructural Control

· In Bainite, Ferrite nucleates at the grain boundaries expelling carbon to form Iron Carbide.

· The morphology of the Bainite depends on the formation temperature. At 495 C the Iron carbide has a rod-like form. At 410 C it is precipitated inside the Ferrite in an orientation that minimizes the lattice distortion.
