Kinetics and Microstructural Control

· The T-T-T curve for the aluminum-copper system shows a suitable path for quenching and ageing the alloy.
· The ageing process following the quench permits the microstructure of the CuAl₂ precipitate to be controlled.
· For the process shown, transformation towards the thermodynamic equilibrium condition is only partial.
