Composite Materials

Short-fiber Composites

· In these materials, the fibers do not extend across the composite and need not have parallel orientations. They are loaded by shear interactions between the matrix and the fiber.

From: Hull, "Introduction to Composite Materials,"
Cambridge (1992)

· The stress in the fibers when the composite is placed under load depends upon their length, their bonding to the matrix, and the elastic properties of both the matrix and the fiber.
