Topology
· Fabrication of complex parts
requires careful design of the fiber reinforcement.
· To permit a woven fiber cloth to be shaped to the compound
curves of an aerodynamic component, the weave must allow relative fiber
movement in the layup phase of fabrication.
· The satin weave shown permits considerable relative fiber
movement and facilitates fiber conformation to a required shape, such as tail
fins for the Airbus. It is impregnated with the resin material that will be
cured to form the composite matrix.
