Recommended Games
It can be difficult to decide which combination of
roles and
variants will make for an enjoyable game. Here we give our recommendations for different numbers of players.
Three players
Three player mafia. The obvious game for three people is one mafia, two villagers. You must obviously start in the daytime to give the villagers any chance at all. This game is good practice.
Four players
One mafia. Play with just one mafia and no other special roles, starting at night. Obviously after the first night is over this is reduced to three player mafia, unless the mafia chose not to kill.
Five players
One mafia. The easiest game with five players is to have just one mafia, and to start during the day. The villagers can choose to use their 'free mistake', or to let the mafia kill two people before trying to get them.
Freemasons. Another reasonable game is to play with two mafia and two freemasons, starting at day.
Six players
Freemasons. This game consists of two mafia and two freemasons, and starts with a mafia kill at night.
Mafia and cop. It is also possible to play with two mafia and a cop, starting at night, although this favors the mafia.
Seven players
Standard. The standard mafia game consists of two mafia and one detective, and begins with day.
Eight players
Rotating Cop. Have two mafia, and no other special roles; but use the rotating cop variant to give the villagers an advantage.
Nine players
Two mafia and a bomber. With nine players have two mafia and one terrorist; the villagers should have both a detective and a doctor.
