Having survived the changes in Windows platforms AND the millennium
remarkably well, PRISM® (Advanced Version 1.0) remains the most
up-to-date version, continuing to be used actively in numerous evaluations
throughout the country and attracting new users, new applications
on a continual basis. To take care of a couple of improvements users
have requested, we are now offering two replacement modules for
the PRISM® software package, both for a nominal fee of $50.
The first is a replacement file for the DDCALC program that computes
HNORM and CNORM, i.e., normalized heating and cooling degree-days
for a specified normalization period. The new version accepts ANY
normalization periods, including a period that spans the two centuries
(e.g., 1/1/1990-12/31/2002). You may not have yet encountered this
problem, since keeping the same normalization period from one application
to another is considered good PRISM®-practice, but at some point
(especially considering recent weird weather patterns!) you’ll
no doubt want to include some of the current century in your normalization
files. “Installing” the new version of DDCALC involves
a simple replacement of one of the .DLL files that is in your PRISM®
software folder.
The second improvement is a program (external to PRISM®) for
translating NOAA temperature files to PRISM® format (i.e., to
create .TPS files). NOAA is notorious for changing the format of
the temperature files it makes available. Our new program, supplied
by the original software engineer for PRISM®, Kelly Kissock,
accommodates the latest NOAA data format, and replaces the PRISM®
menu item Data Prep, NOAA to TPS.
It’s easy for PRISM® Users to purchase these two improvements:
