My main research focus is model reduction for fluids for the purpose of designing closed-loop controllers. I have been working on the application of Balanced Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (BPOD) to transitional channel flow. The application of this method, which is a close approximation of balanced truncation for large systems, has resulted in models with promising premilinary results for closed-loop control. Successful control of channel flow is a step towards developing controllers for complex flows in complicated geometries encountered in aircraft or other practical applications.
