recruiting a postdoc for 2023
We are inviting applications for a postdoc position for candidates with human fMRI experience + advanced computational skills to work at the intersection of visual cognition & real-time modeling of fMRI data. More details about our lab's research can be found here.

Application Deadline: December 31, 2022 (early applications encouraged).
Start Date: 2023 (flexible).
Funding: Guaranteed 2 yrs, $55k+/yr (NIH scale; negotiable w/ external funding), extendable based on performance.
Application Instructions: Please send a CV, contact info for 2 references, and a short (1-2 pg) research statement to mci (at) rochester (dot) edu. Your statement should describe your current work, as well as a couple of research questions / directions you'd like to pursue in the lab. We especially encourage applications from minority and/or underrepresented candidates.

Ideal candidates have a PhD in neuroscience, psychology, computer science, or a related field; strong programming and quantitative skills; experience with human fMRI (min. 3 yrs) and with applying computational / machine learning analysis methods to high-dimensional data. However, if you think you'd be a great fit for our lab, but you're unsure about your level of experience with one or two of these qualifications, don't hesitate to apply or reach out.

Come work in a welcoming, inclusive, equitable, and friendly environment where you'll be supported and valued. You'll join a growing community of interdisciplinary scientists and you'll have opportunities to collaborate with several communities and depts: Brain and Cognitive Sciences, Psychology, Neuroscience, Data Science, & Computer Science. We'll provide individualized mentorship geared toward achieving your own ideal career path, whether in academia or industry. This includes training in a plethora of relevant skills: leadership + mentorship, project management, scientific communication + writing, data science. Our lab also uses and provides (continuing) training in a cornucopia of techniques and methods, including fMRI, advanced machine learning (incl. neural networks), psychophysics, real-time neuroimaging, and neurofeedback. Collaboration opportunities are also available in the department for EEG and AR/VR.

Your salary will afford you a good standard of living in an inexpensive city: 55k+/yr (NIH scaling), negotiable w/ external funding. We also provide great healthcare benefits, voluntary 403B retirement contribution option, paid family leave, and enduring NY state social protections.

We believe that being a successful scientist requires not just dedication and supportive mentorship, but also a good work/life balance and the ability to explore one's passions both within and outside the lab. There are lots of ways to enjoy your time here: world-class symphony, great culture and food, exceptionally LGBTQIA+ friendly University and city, 20 min to a sandy beach, 1h to Finger Lakes / wine country / skiing, 2h to great hiking in the Adirondacks. We also have a balanced 4 season climate with weather for every occasion: Lilac Festival in the spring, beautiful sunny summers (<10 days above 90 deg), gorgeous fall foliage, and snowy holidays in the winter.

If you have any questions, please reach out to mci (at) rochester (dot) edu.
