Note: These instructions are not for Mac or Linux users.

You may want to print out these directions first so that you can have them for your reference.

  1. Click here to begin the download.

  2. A dialog box opens. Click on Save File. [Note: Some web browsers may skip this step and go directly to the next stage.]

  3. Another box opens which asks where you wish to save the file. This choice is up to you, but you should put it in a directory that you normally use for other word-processing, spreadsheet, and database files, such as "My Documents."

  4. Click on Save.

  5. Exit your web browser program and start Microsoft Access. [Note: If there is no icon on your desktop, click on the Start Button, then list programs, clicking on Access OR look for Office-Tools and choose Access.]

  6. With Access running, open the file called "Theses." It will be located in the folder where you saved the download. (See Step 3.)

  7. On the left hand side of the box in the middle of your screen are several choices. Click on Forms.

  8. Open the "Thesis Input Form" by either double clicking on it or by highlighting it and clicking on open.

  9. Enter information following the guidelines on the form. Please use upper and lower case letters when inputting information. Do NOT change the design of the database structure.  Doing so makes it incompatible with the web accessible database.

  10. When complete, choose File from the menu bar, and select Close.

  11. You may then click on the Reports tab (under the Forms tab from Step 7). Choose either the long form or the short form by double clicking on the form you want. [Note: Choosing the short form will truncate titles.] Click on File from the menu bar and then select print to print out a list of your database.

  12. After you have printed your form(s), close Access by either clicking on the X in the uppermost right hand corner or by choosing File on the menu bar and selecting Exit.

  13. Please send your file to the University Archives as an attachment to an email message. (Email address: dsantam@princeton.edu).

  14. When sending theses to the Archives, please do not put them in envelopes larger than the standard campus mail envelope.

If you have further questions or need additional assistance, please call or email Dan Santamaria at 8-5161 or dsantam@princeton.edu.
