Sooner than later (2010) is inspired by microarray experiments and illustrates
the surprising beauty of a complex gene expression profile.
Created with Ashwin K., this 3D animation moves through various experimental
and computational steps in the state-of-art genomic study, from hybridization
and data extraction to clustering and network analysis.
Watch The Art of Gene Expression (2010) 2010 ISMB Art & Science Exhibition Selection or "how i never grew up" is a lo-fi visual travel journal,
a self-reflective confession, and a depressing thought.
Flip video clips from Europe (circa summer 2009) were layered
with filmmaker's nonlinear storytelling of the past, the present, and the future.
Through a seemingly arbitrary mixture of visual, narrative, and constant noise,
the narrator commemorates those overwhelming hospitalities of
"our" drivers, strangers, and friends.
Watch Auto. Stop. Go. (2009-2010) segmented memories from parallel universes is an non-linear
database video, produced as an interactive installation. From a 30 hour long video
archive of private, public, and social happenings in Australia, Korea, and South Africa,
34 clips are created and organized according to their themes, compositions, and narratives.
Through navigating these clips, viewers may discover my own psychological and physical
journey accompanied by commentaries from my family and friends.

exploring problems, dilemmas, and philosophical inquiries of youth.
Through personal interviews,
five young men share alternative perspectives and life styles with a
sense of humor.
An evolution of formats and stylistic approaches highlights the
filmmaker's own maturation process over three years.

generative video installation by Bill Seaman and Daniel C. Howe. This work recombines words and
motion pictures in real-time, based on associative data. The audience is encouraged to make their own
associations. From footages of installaions, soundtracks, and interviews, I was commissioned to create two videos.

the 1.5 generation whose inner and outter transformation is neither resistible nor beneficial nor undesirable.
A half hour clip of violent yet tranquil self-modification, in a bright green studio, results in a mohawk without a cause.
Extremely Unfortunately Lost (Spring 2007) is an
experimental video, capturing
a "high caliber" life style of college students whose pursuit of
efficiency spawns mundane repetition
and thoughtlessness. Can this generation be saved? Cyclic video clips,
still pictures, and an original
sound track explore this phenomenon as well as my sympathy, concern,
and personal dilemma.

montage of several ethnicities expressing their love of music.
Short, simple, and bold, this short video, broadcasted nationally on MTV and MTV2, expresses
how we can bond and communicate through the universal language -- music.
MTV MPEG US Selection (March 2003) was my
first ever video project, created with a Hi8 camera. After examining my
self, my friends, and my generation, I wanted to create a work that rebels
and reveals; lifeless and endless race within a narrow education cycle.

Perspectives and Technologies
Vice Controller constitutes both a re-creation and a representation of
our networked ecosystems and societies. Collaborating with
Ashwin Kulothungun, this installaion-in-process amplifies a scientific process
to present an uncensored, tactile experience of our ability to direct biological and environmental change,
and to thus question the nature of our responsibilities.
Kickstarter Project Page New Communication Paradigm for Science A traditional publication scheme in science has incurred not
only financial charges to readers, but also a significant delay in delivering scientific discoveries.
With the advent of networked computers, scholarly discourses may be delievered swiftly, widely, and directly
without inflicting financial burdens on fellow researchers and the public. While working at an open access
journal for undergraduate scientists, I wrote an editorial summarizing and advocating for new communication paradigm.
Editorial in the Journal of Young Investigators New Media and New Video Techniques With Daniela Atanasova, we held a workshop for the
2009 Cre8ive8 Youth Media Production training
course, which took place in Strumica, Republic of
Macedonia on July 4th-11th. To about 20 students from Poland,
Romania,
Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia, we introduced
new media theories and practices. Particularly, we
employed the Korsakow System to create
an interactive database video with a theatrical
narrative.
Cre8ive8 Youth Media Production Workshop Through NanoBio Engineering Teaching Fellowship, I taught innovative
hands-on science experiments at Sherwood Githens Middle School (Durham, NC) for a year.
Working with Mr. Phillips, we explored and brought "fun" approaches to get students interested
in science and engineering.

and I developed and taught a undergraduate seminar course on philosophy
of and for
new media. Both new and old philosophical inquires are ubiquitously
embedded in new media form
and content. Specifically we focused on four major topics: Personal
Identity,
Simulacra Simulation and Synthetic, Self-Referentiality, and Free Will.
Course Syllabus (Spring 2009) Lifeomics: Future Healthcare Model Lifeomics is a database-driven
wellness model in a synthetic world, with a watch-like health
monitoring interface. The system designs and
functionalties were refind in the Emergent Embeded Interface course
with Dr. Seaman. Using social, personal, and medical
information, Lifeomics will promote
wellbeing living, participatory health learning, social awareness of
new medicine.
"Lifeomics" on the Triple Helix Online The Starry Night Film Society
in Durham, NC had screened over 40 experimental,
obscure, and offensive films between 2006 and 2009.
While nothing valuable came out of the society,
personally it served as an informal hub
for social interactions and artistic inspirations.
It is now defunct, happily and nostalgically.
Maturation Process & Contact Info I was born in Korea and never
had childhood. I spent my teenagehood in Saint Petersburg,
FL and my early 20's in Durham, NC. I had once
called Sydney and Cape Town home. Somehow I ended in Jersey City.
