Garnet

A Detailed Interconnection Network Model inside a Full-system Simulation Framework

- Garnet is also a famous gemstone

With the advent of chip multiprocessors (CMPs) into mainstream systems, the on-chip network to connect different processing cores becomes a critical part of the design. There is thus an ever increasing need to evaluate systems with accurate interconnection network models.

Garnet is a detailed network model incorporated inside a full-system simulation framework (GEMS) which enables system level performance and power modeling of the interconnection network. Garnet uses Simics from Virtutech for functional simulation.

What's in a name : Our group has the tradition of naming tools after some star. Also all models inside GEMS are essentially named after a gemstone. That is what led us to the name Garnet and that is the reason why you see two images on this webpage
