My research interests are in the behavior of electrons in strongly-correlated materials, exemplified by the cuprates, cobaltates, manganites, graphene and bismuth-based compounds.  Recent interests are the “Dirac materials” -- solids in which electrons have a “relativistic” energy vs. momentum dispersion – and topological insulators.  I am also interested in developing optical, quantitative techniques in biology (“how many protein copies in each cell of E. Coli and  Harveyi.”)  Please see talks for some examples of recent projects.
