Sunday Follow Overlook Spur (OS-Red) to junction with Overlook Trail (OL-Blue). Drop packs at

ruins and dayhike to the fire tower for sweet views! N on OL-B to junction w/ Echo

Lake Trail (EL-yellow); West on EL-Y to lake.

Water1:
Bring from campus. There's no water at the trailhead or along trail until springs

feeding Echo Lake.

Campsite1:
near Echo Lake leanto (with C20)
Monday Follow EL-Y back to OL-B. Follow OL-B north to jct with the Devil's Path (DP-Red).

Take the Long Path (blue plastic markers) as it veers N, away from the DP-R. The LP

markers change from blue to green as the LP crosses Platte Clove Preserve. No

camping in the Preserve. Continue on LP which turns east onto Rt 16. Be careful

hiking along road. Turn left onto snowmobile trail/Steenberg Rd (orange markers). Turn

right when LP (blue) veers away from Steenberg Rd. Look for a campsite ~1mi from

Rt 16 near jct HP-Y trail. Optional dayhike: Take the the HP-Y SE to Huckleberry

jct LP & HP-Y
Campsite2:
start looking for campsite ~1 mi N. of Rt 16. be sure to camp 150' from trail and

water sources.
Tuesday Follow LP north, using MAP 40. LP winds NW on snowmobile trail and levels off at

3,000ft through hemloch forest, Pine Plains, after which the snowmobile trail veers W

and LP turns E. [Optional dayhike up Kaaterskill: Take snowmobile trail (orange) to blue

cut-off trail up High Peak.] Continue on the LP, going east. Enjoy Buttermilk & Wildcat

dirt road north to Rt. 16 near jct DP & OL trails, streams and falls along trail
Campsite3:
past 3rd stream, near jct PL-Y. (C83 will be in the area)
Wednes Follow LP down to 23A. To get to 23A, hike west along Malden Ave 0.5 mile. Hike east

on 23A 0.5mi, then turn left w/LP onto Sleepy Hollow Horse Trail. (See pp.136-7 in

Long Path Guide.) Steep climb on LP up to South Mtn, site of former Hotel Kaaterskill,

then turns right along the Escarpment Trail (ES-Blue). Camp east of N/S Lake.

cross two streams along trail, Kaaterskill Creek, small lake and stream up on top of

South Mtn., N/S Lake Campground

Campsite4:
Find a site E of N/S Lake, off the ES-B. Be sure to camp 150' from trail and water.
Thursday There's NO WATER between North/South Lake and the CL-Y trail. Fill up in the

morning. Follow the Escarpment Trail (ES-Blue) north. [Optional dayhike: yellow-blazed

trail 0.8mi N of North Lake parking lot goes to Sunset Rock viewpoint.] Continue on

ES-B past the jct of Mary's Glen Trail (MG-Red). 360-degree view at North Point. Look

for Albany to the NE. to jct of Colgate Lake Trail (CL-Yellow.) Take CL-Y SW for 1

mi. See pp.142-142.

~1 mi. down CL(Y) in field. Note: easternmost lake on map is actually a swampy

area.
Friday Hike out CL-Y, past 3 lakes to the western-most parking lot.
