Sunday Hike south on the AT, camp in Hogwallow Flats. Look for spring on the left before trail

takes a big turn uphill. Should be small side trail next to spring. Take side trail way

back and look for grassy clearing. May have to search around way off the trail, as

campsite not immediately visible from trail. Spring may be dry - start with lots of

water; bring full chickens to use for Monday night water.

bring FULL CHICKENS from campus, Spring (may be dry) along AT, about .5 mi

after crossing of Skyline Drive at mile 14.25

Hogwallow Flat
Monday South on AT to Keyser Run Fire Road (located at Skyline mile 19.4). CAREFUL ON

ROAD-CROSSINGS! Recommend checking out Hogback Overlook 0.3mi south. Hike

South on Keyser Run, then South onto Pole Bridge Link Trail. Hike South on Link Trail

to Piney Branch Trail, then west on Piney Branch to 2nd stream crossing. Walk left

along the stream. There is an impacted tarp site next right next to the stream on the

south side. Lots of streams: Remind your frosh to trowel 200ft from water.

tarpsite by 2nd stream on Piney Branch Trail
Tuesday Hike east on Piney Branch back to jct of Link Trail, then south on Piney Branch to jct

of Hull School Trail. Hike South on Hull School Trail to Skyline Drive Hike South on

Skyline, using grassy shoulder on left to Beahms Gap Overlook. Great view! Cross

Syline to pick up Beahms side trail to AT. Hike North on AT and after approx. 50 yards

look down slope to left for good campsites. If you hit sidetrail off AT to spring you've

gone too far.

Off AT, halfway between Beahms Gap sidetrail and spring near Byrd's Nest 4. Share

with VA71.
Wednes North on AT to Neighbor Mountain Trail, West on NMT to Jeremy's Run Trail, north.

Huge downhill from NMT peak down to JRT. Camp in flat section near Jeremy's Run,

about 1.0 mile up the Jeremy's Run Trail from the jct. with NMT. Start looking for

campsite after about 4 stream crossings, when JRT is E of Jeremy's Run. Campsite

not far from trail, off to the right.

Thursday East on Jeremy's Run (careful: tons of stream crossings, which may be very slippery

and dangerous with rain) all the way to intersection with AT. From here, refer to small

insert on back of map: Hike East on AT to North on Elkwallow Trail to road into

Mathew's Arm to Traces Nature Trail to spur trail to Tuscarora Overall Run Trail. East

(right) on TORT 30 yards, and look for campsite way off to the left, about 40 yards

off trail.

NO WATER AT CAMP. Get at Matthews Arm or Elkwallow Wayside (has bathrooms

too).

Tuscarora-Overall Run Trail 0.75 mile from AT near junction with sidetrail to Mathews

Arm.
Friday Take Tuscarora Overall Trail East to Junction with AT. Take AT north to Parking Lot next to Hogback Overlook for pickup.
