Application Information for 2004-05
LGBT Peer Education Program Thank you for your interest in the LGBT Peer Education Program. LGBT Peer Educators serve as supportive and accessible resources for students with questions or concerns relating to the issues facing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning students. As part of their outreach efforts, LGBT Peer Educators also attempt to sensitize the larger University community to issues of homophobia, heterosexism, and stereotyping of LGBT people. The expectations for members of the program are outlined below. Peer educators: Attend a two-day training session early in the fall semester (Tuesday, September 7 th and Wednesday, September 8th ) Are knowledgeable about common concerns of LGBT students and are able to make referrals to appropriate resources Are sensitive and willing to listen to the concerns of students dealing with LGBT issues, including those who are straight or questioning their sexuality Lead a minimum of FIVE presentations and discussion sessions for freshman RA groups, eating clubs, community youth groups, and other groups as requested Maintain confidentiality in dealing with students who have questions or concerns Are listed in the campus directory in the advisory organizations section and are willing to be contacted by and provide support for those with questions or concerns Those applying to be peer educators must be available to attend two full days of fall training on Tuesday, September 7th and Wednesday, September 8th.Applications (click here to download) may be typed or handwritten and should be returned to Debbie Bazarsky, LGBT Student Services Coordinator, in 313 West College by noon on Monday, May 3rd . When candidates turn in their application, they will be asked to schedule a thirty-minute interview on Wednesday, May 5th and Thursday, May 6th .
