Three U.S. presidents have been Princeton students. James
Madison, the fourth president of the United States, was a member
of
the College of New Jersey's Class of 1771. The 28th president,
Woodrow
Wilson,
was
a member of Princeton's Class of 1879. And it comes as a surprise
to many that the 35th president, John F. Kennedy, was a member
of the Class of 1939. Kennedy entered Princeton in
1935 but fell ill during his freshman year and withdrew from
Princeton, later enrolling at Harvard. In his Princeton application,
JFK wrote, "To be a Princeton man is indeed an enviable
distinction."
