Many visitors recognize Holder Courtyard and Firestone
Common Room from the 2001 Academy Award-winning film A
Beautiful Mind, starring Russell Crowe and Jennifer
Connolly. The movie is based on the life story of John Forbes
Nash Jr. GS'50, who to this day remains on the Princeton
faculty. Some other interesting notes about the film:
- The "faculty dining room" in
the film is actually the Rockefeller College common room.
- The pen tradition portrayed in the
movie is fictional; no such ritual exists. However, the
math department does meet for afternoon tea every weekday.
- Some of the winter scenes were actually
filmed in the spring, so the production company used fake
snow. Imagine the surprise of Holder Hall residents who
awoke one warm May morning to find snow piled up outside
their windows!
