Since its founding in 1883, the Princeton University Art Museum
has exhibited some of the most significant and controversial
pieces
of
art owned by any university. Openness is the theme of the building;
from the entrance nearly all the galleries are visible. Among
the notable pieces of art in the 60,000-piece collection are
Veronese's The
Rest on the Flight to Egypt, Monet's Water Lilies and
Japanese Bridge, Andy Warhol's Blue Marilyn, American
art, Chinese scrolls and bronzes, photography, pre-Colombian
gold, Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Mesopotamian antiquities, and
African art.
The museum's hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through
Saturday and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The museum is closed
on Mondays. To learn more about the Princeton University Art
