Greek Myths, Art and Music

Nearly 100 children, parents, college students, and community members gathered for the Princeton Orange Pan-Hellenic Association's (OPA) Greek Myths, Art, and Music event held all day on Saturday, October 13th. From 10AM until 3PM, over 40 registered participants aged 5-12 embarked on a Greek cultural journey through a series of activities and workshops. The event began in the Princeton University Art Museum where children and their families went on a scavenger hunt exploring the museum's Ancient Greece exhibit. The participants learned about Ancient Greek heroes, sculpture, and daily life, while also having the opportunity to design their own vase.

After the museum tour, a free lunch was provided to the event participants at Chancellor Green. During the afternoon, Elena Toumaras led a traditional Greek dance workshop for the children and invited the adults to participate alongside them. Princeton University students also presented and acted out stories from ancient mythology in English and Greek to the workshop participants.

Food was donated by local Greek-owned restaurants including Zorba's Brother and George's Roasters and Ribs. Costs for the day's activities were generously sponsored by the Federation of Hellenic American Organizations of New Jersey, the Next Generation Initiative, and the Princeton Undergraduate Student Government. Members of the TCNJ Hellenic Society helped the Princeton event planners in ensuring the event ran smoothly. The event was well received by the families who were kept engaged for the duration of the event and are looking forward to similar community events to be organized by OPA in the future.

An opportunity for elementary school students (ages 5-12) to experience Greek culture through an interactive tour of the Princeton University Art Museum’s Greek collections, reading of Greek myths, and a traditional Greek dance workshop.
