Monthly Dinner Meeting
Thursday, February 23, 2012
our guest speaker
will be
Ryan Davison,
Ph.D.
Manager, Advocacy,
American Chemical Society
“Federal
Policy Update: Activities of Lawmakers and the ACS
Advocacy Team in Washington”
It
is challenging to write a specific abstract 3 months
ahead of time because the content of what would be most
valuable to share with ACS member’s from Capitol Hill
changes on a weekly basis. In general, I will provide
an overview of the current political climate here in DC,
offer an update of ACS Advocacy efforts, and discuss
current federal legislation relevant to ACS members.
Based on feedback from previous presentations, these
topics are of the most interest and value to ACS
members. Other topics might include appropriation
levels for FY2012 and FY2013, insights about the 2012
GOP primary/presidential election, the ACS’s desire to
make the federal Research and Development Tax...

Outstanding High School Chemistry Teacher Awardees
The Princeton and Trenton
Sections of the American Chemical Society are
jointly sponsoring the Outstanding High School
Chemistry Teacher Award again this year. The
purpose of this award is to recognize and encourage
outstanding teachers of high school chemistry and to
motivate others to emulate them. Two winners will
be selected (one for each ACS section) and they will
each receive a cash award of $250. The awards will
be presented at the May meeting of the Princeton ACS
section.
We need your help in
identifying award candidates. We know there are
many talented and dedicated chemistry teachers in
our area. This is an excellent opportunity to
recognize the work of a member of your department or
fellow chemistry teacher. We encourage you to send
in a nomination or resubmit one that you have made
in a previous year.
Nominations must be received by
March 5, 2012. The contest details are presented in
‘Instructions and Guidelines’
and you can see past winners
here.

University in mid-April.
Student teams that place
first in each of the 4
categories of Chemagination
(Alternative Energy Sources,
Environment,
Medicine/Healthcare, and New

opportunity to compete at
the regional level of the
competition in June.
The 2012
