2006 OUTSTANDING HIGH SCHOOL

CHEMISTRY TEACHER AWARD

 

This year the Princeton and Trenton ACS sections jointly launched a new program - , Outstanding High School Chemistry Teacher Award.  The purpose of this award is to recognize, encourage and stimulate teachers of high school chemistry.  Criteria for selection are:  teaching quality, ability to challenge and inspire students, willingness to keep up to date in the field, evidence of leadership, and extracurricular work in chemistry.  We were very pleased with the response our program.  We received nominations of many highly qualified teachers.  It is gratifying to see that we have so many talented and dedicated teachers in our area schools.

The award committee is pleased to announce that this year’s winners are Ms Karen Galley from West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South and Ms Carol A. Peabody from Delaware Valley Regional High School.  Karen Galley has been a chemistry teacher for over 30 years and has been at West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South since 1989.  Carol Peabody has been teaching chemistry since 1990.  Prior to this, she held various positions in industry.  She has been at Delaware Valley since 1998.  As detailed in their submission information, both exemplify the attributes of an outstanding teacher and we are very happy to be able to recognize their contributions to their students, profession and to chemistry.  The award, which consists of a plaque and check were presented to the winners at the May meeting of the Princeton ACS.

Both of the winners of the HS teacher award were nominated by the Princeton and Trenton sections. for the ACS Mid-Atlantic Regional (MARM) High School Chemistry Teacher Award.

 

We have recently been informed that Ms Karen Galley was selected as winner of this award for 2006!  , Congratulations once again to you and your school from the Executive Committees of the Princeton and Trenton Sections of the American Chemical Society.
