Paul Lansky
Old Dominion Listening Seminar 1
These pieces were chosen because to some degree they each announce their structure
within the opening moments and guide the listener accordingly.
While this didactic strategy
has existed in music for centuries, in fugues and canons, for example,
in some ways
these pieces raise the question about whether or not this subverts or aids the listening process.
You'll need RealAudio and an MP3 player to listen to these files.
Lucier: I am sitting in a room (this is 45 minutes long. You needn't listen to the whole thing to get the idea,
although it's quite a trip.)
The rest of the pieces are all under 8 minutes
