Slippers on the feet of Sam Hill ’49, center, were the tip-off to Don Hahn ’51, left, that this photo was taken on a Sunday morning as he, Sam, and Joe Hooper ’50 returned to their Pyne Hall rooms from breakfast at Commons. Hahn recalls that “a gentleman was preparing to shoot the scene through Blair Arch” as he and his friends “sauntered by.” The photo (which was taken by James W. Williams Jr. ’47) appeared on the cover of the April 23, 1948, PAW. Hill, who died in 2001, often wore slippers to Commons on Sunday, Hahn says.
