A letter from a reader: Choose another metaphor

March 19, 2008:

In her Dec. 12 President's Page, President Tilghman expresses great confidence Princeton's faculty and students, in the coming years, "will make the world their oyster."

Please! Expand their horizons, perhaps, as hackneyed as that phrase might be. But an oyster, a delectable to some, to be devoured, as if, in some way, it is ours? I think not.
