February 14:
Administration Announces Formal Review of
Proxy Voting Policy During Spring Semester
Princeton University announced at today's Council
of the Princeton University Community (CPUC) meeting that it is instituting a
formal review of its proxy voting policy. This is a very significant
step towards PCAIR’s goal of having a proxy voting advisory committee at
Princeton University to review social issues proxies and recommend to
the board of trustees how to vote in an ethically acceptable manner.
The Resources Committee, a sub-committee
of the CPUC that is charged to deal with all
socially responsible investment issues, will conduct the review and
report back to the trustees at their May meeting. This would not have
happened had not PCAIR convinced the University, in the fall of 2004, that a review of the
current policy was in order.
It is now PCAIR's task to support the Resources Committee in its research, and
to show them how the members of the University community, such as students, staff,
faculty, and alumni, feel about these issues, which the Trustees have
instructed the committee to consider in their deliberations. Sign our petition (click

February 13:
USG passes resolution supporting PCAIR-proposed proxy voting advisory
committee
Princeton's Undergraduate Student Government
(USG) passed a resolution endorsing the creation of a proxy voting
advisory committee to review social issues proposals and recommend how
to vote in an ethically responsible way to the trustees. This is only
the second resolution the USG has passed in at least five years.
