Liberty Science Center 'Strange Matter' Kickoff

Over thirty faculty came to Bowen Hall to kick off an exciting new partnership with Liberty Science Center. This partnership will be a major new initiative for PCCM to increase the public's awareness of materials science research. Faculty, staff and students of PCCM will participate in science education programs both in Princeton and at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. Dedicated to inspiring imagination and creativity through adventures in interactive discovery, Liberty Science Center is the NJ-NY area's preeminent science education center. Liberty Science Center has welcomed over seven million guests since opening in 1993.  (http://www.lsc.org)
Liberty Science Center has the distinction of being the first U.S. stop of the exhibit entitled Strange Matter, (http://www.strangematterexhibit.com), which is a National Science Foundation (http://www.nsf.gov/) and Materials Research Society (http://www.mrs.org) - sponsored exhibit entirely dedicated to materials science education. This exhibit will be at LSC from January 31st through May 2nd, 2004. A number of programs that bring together LSC staff and PCCM scientists are planned prior to the unveiling of this exhibit, to develop better supplementary education tools. Also, many PCCM staff and students will visit the museum during the Strange Matter exhibition to do hands-on materials science demos targeted at children visiting the center. Hopefully, these programs will be the beginning of a productive relationship between LSC and PCCM.
During the Strange Matter exhibit, LSC and PCCM hope that thousands of people will leave each day with a better understanding of materials science.
