2008

March 19, 2008 - Science & Engineering Expo

The 5th annual Science and Engineering Expo is coming! The Science and Engineering Expo (SEE Princeton) has been a tremendous success in reaching 1000's of middle school students at an age where studies show they tend to lose interest in science.

January 8, 2008 - Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad competitions are like academic track meets, consisting of a series of 23 individual and team events. Each year, events are updated to reflect the ever-changing nature of the latest advances in biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers, astronomy, engineering and technology. PCCM will again provide support and judges for events.

2007

December 5, 2007 - Materials Science Modules Workshop for Teachers

PCCM Education Outreach will show teachers how to use low / no cost, simple labs and experiments using everyday materials, that can be integrated into existing lesson plans to actively engage students in materials science and the engineering design.

November 26-30, 2007 - MRS Fall Meeting

PCCM education outreach will be participating in many of the activities offered at the MRS Fall Meeting, including talks and activity tables.

August 6-10, 2007 - Materials Camp for Teachers

Partnering with ASM and Rutgers University, the Materials Camp has grown to twice its size, with one camp held at Rutgers and Princeton each year, from 2007 forth. PCCM will conduct a weeklong course in how to teach Materials Science in their classroom and conduct safe, cost-effective labs for 30 New Jersey high school teachers.

Summer, 2007 - REU/RET

Undergraduates and teachers spend the summer performing research alongside PRISM/PCCM faculty. 37 students and 4 teachers.

November 15, 2006 - Materials Camp/RET Follow-Up Forum for Teachers

Teachers who participated in PCCM's Education Outreach programs will participate in a forum to determine the effectiveness of the programs and discuss what is needed in today's schools. PCCM scientists and outreach lead teachers will share their expertise and experiences.

August 7-11, 2006 - Materials Camp for Teachers

June 6-August 5, 2005 - Research Experience for Undergrads

25 undergraduate students from around the country will come to Princeton to work with Materials Scientists this summer.

June-August, 2005 - Research Experience for Teachers

High school science teachers will work in Materials Science labs to gain research experience and work to enrich the science experience of their students.

Three sessions of P.U.M.A. will introduce high school students from different areas of NJ to Materials Science. July 11-August 19, 2005

Princeton University Materials Academy (P.U.M.A.) - Mentor Power, (Reengineering better products with Materials Science) Under-represented high school students from Trenton, Princeton and Lawrence learn our new module Reengineering better products with Materials Science, Four groups compete to use the latest innovations in Materials science to develop new products. Featuring-Data analysis, lab testing, proof of concept

Princeton University Materials Academy (P.U.M.A.) - Upward Bound, (Smart Sensors and MEMS) Under-represented high school students from Trenton High School research the latest innovations in Smart Sensors and MEMS.

Princeton University Materials Academy (P.U.M.A.) Middlesex First step in Middlesex High School's new Materials Science course for High school Juniors and Seniors will be held in conjunction with PUMA as PCCM Princeton Outreach program pilots new High school level materials science course.

May 21-22 , 2005 - Super Science Weekend - 25th Anniversary

New Jersey State Museum Plaza - Trenton, NJ
Super Science Weekend features a spectacular outdoor festival of science exploration and fun. Activities include mini-exhibits, "make-and-take" booths, auditorium presentations, planetarium/laser shows, lectures, demonstrations and more - all focusing on natural history and the sciences. For the first time ever, PRISM/PCCM scientists will demonstrate materials science at the PRISM/PCCM exhibition booth for this tremendous community event.

May 16 , 2005 - Paul Chaikin and Dan Steinberg Visit Middlesex High School

Prof. Paul Chaikin and Outreach Director Daniel Steinberg will go to Middlesex High School to talk with 90 students who have reproduced Prof. Chaikin's experiments on spheroid packing.
