on Earth The Science of TidesThe simple picture of tides that I presented earlier shows a continuous ocean with two bulges, one directed towards the moon and one away from it. Now we have to admit reality into our picture. We will now take into account two factors: the revolution of the moon around the earth; and the existence of ocean basins and land masses.
