Annual Conference

Princeton Disabilities Awareness is hosting the fifth-annual Down Syndrome Conference on Sunday, November 20, 2011.

During the conference, all children with Down Syndrome under the age of 21 (and interested siblings) attend a carnival with a personal Princeton University student volunteer. The carnival hosts a variety of activities including a scavenger hunt, sports, interactive stories and games, and other stations run by Princeton student groups. Volunteer to child ratios are usually one-to-one. All volunteers are trained and receive individual information on their specific child. There is also a nursery for all children under the age of 2.

While the children are attending the carnival, their parents are invited to hear speakers who are experts in different aspects of Down Syndrome. This year, some of the topics to be discussed include: social inclusion, managing your finances, mental well-being, and appropriate public/private behavior. In addition, there will be an exhibit hall with various organizations that provide resources and support for families of children with Down Syndrome. Suggestions for speakers and exhibitors are more than welcome!

Complimentary brunch and reception food are also provided for all attendees. The reception will feature closing remarks, a slideshow of the conference, and performances from Princeton student groups!
